Results and Access at the Examencommissie Secundair Onderwijs

Welcome to the information page about the results and access at the Examination Board for secondary education. Here you will find everything you need to know about receiving your exam results, the conditions for passing, and how to access your exam.

Your results

You can view your exam results within 30 days after the exam via your candidate platform. These can be found under the Results section or directly on your homepage.

With digital exams, there is little marking work, so the results can be available quickly. Sometimes the full 30 days are needed due to external correctors. There is no urgent procedure for receiving your results faster.

Results are always displayed at 100%. If you have to take 2 exams for a subject, the distribution may differ. This is stated in the subject sheet. If nothing is mentioned, both exams count for 50%. Only the total result is important.

Passed or not passed?

You have passed if you achieve 50% or more on the exam or have received the passed indicator.

  • You can take an exam multiple times and retain the highest result.
  • Exam results remain valid for 7 years.
  • Did you pass all subjects? Then you will receive your certificate or diploma. Check your address details in the candidate platform.

If you did not pass a subject, you can retake the exam within the 3 exam attempts per subject per calendar year.

Deliberation and fail points

There is no deliberation at the Examination Board. Scoring sufficiently is necessary for a certificate or diploma. Fail points are automatically assigned via your platform if you score less than 50%.

View all agreements in the exam regulations.

  • How do fail points work?

You are entitled to one fail point per subject, with a maximum of 7 fail points. You can use fail points for up to 3 subjects.

  • Conditions

    • You have at least 45% for the subject.
    • You have failed three subjects or fewer.
    • You do not need more than 7 fail points to score sufficiently.
  • Example

    • With 45% in history, 49% in mathematics, and 49% in geography, you can raise your scores with 7 fail points.
    • With 45% in history, 48% in mathematics, and 47% in geography, you are 10 points short. You choose which subject to retake.
  • Exemptions

An exemption does not count as a subject and does not yield a fail point. For each exemption, one fail point disappears. You may still take an exempted subject. If you score less than 50%, you retain your exemption.

Access to your exam

For some exams, you can access online via your candidate platform. Usually, you have to come to the exam center.

Planning access: step by step

  • Online or at the exam center?

For digital exams you did not pass, you can choose whether you want to access at the exam center. For non-digital exams, you must first access online via your candidate platform.

For digital exams, you can choose a date for your access up to 30 days after the publication of your result. The access takes place at the exam center and lasts 90 minutes. You must be present yourself, but you may bring a supervisor.

  • Formulating comments

During the access, you can formulate comments. The Examination Board will review these and respond within 30 days via your platform.

  • Filing an appeal

Do you disagree with the comments? You have 10 working days to start an appeal procedure with a registered letter to the appeal committee of the Examination Board, Koning Albert II-laan 15, box 131, 1210 Brussels.

In the exam regulations, you will find all information about the appeal procedure.

Proof of your exam trajectory

A diploma or certificate from the Examination Board has the same value as a diploma from a school. It is based on the final objectives for secondary education and approved by the education inspectorate.

You receive a certificate for the 1st or 2nd grade, and a diploma for the 3rd grade. Your official document is sent by registered mail and can take 2 to 3 weeks.

Did you obtain your diploma after 2012? Then it is also in the Learning and Experience Certificate Database (LED) of the Flemish Government.
